020 • A week of gratitude and reflection
Happy Friday...
It's been quite an introspective week. Having turned 20 on Tuesday (and this coincidentally being the 20th issue of this newsletter), my mind has been full of reminiscence and reflection.
The idea that I've entered my third decade on the planet hasn't quite sunk in yet. It deserves some more journaling and planning, setting goals for the next 10 years of my life.
If you want to check out some of my reflections on the last 20 years on the planet, you can read this piece...
These last few weeks were swamped with university study and other events. This means I've had to tone down my writing on all platforms. However, I've completely neglected writing shorter-form posts on Twitter. Whether this is because of the short-form content paradox or just because of laziness I don't know. But from now on I'm going to put more effort into writing original short-form content. It's an area of my work that I've been lacking.
As well as this, it's going to be further tailored to the type of audience that I want to attract. They want to learn about creativity, productivity and personal knowledge management.
If you don't follow me on Twitter you can do so by clicking the icon on the footer of this email.
I will continue in the new Fundamentalised style and give you a roundup of what I've done this week. Enjoy, and I'll be in your inbox again next Friday. Cheers!
What I’ve written this week…
Value exchange rules the world - Expanding on the common idea that ‘money rules the world’ - it goes deeper this.
Twenty observations from twenty years on Earth - A few things that I’ve observed from two decades of life on this planet.
What I’ve read this week…
How I Turned Down $300,000 from Microsoft to go Full-Time on GitHub - This is a gem of a story/article/post that I discovered whilst looking into website generators, especially Jekyll. The author Tom is the creator of both GitHub and Jekyll. Although I know next to nothing about him, it’s an inspiring story about someone who took the initiative rather than the safe option and built something great that’s changed the lives of millions of people around the world.
Quote of the week…
Seeing as I’m a Readwise user as well as Ali, I’m going to steal Ali Abdaal’s practice of adding a Readwise quote to my weekly newsletter. These are all highlights that I’ve made from books and articles in the past. I hope they’ll give you some food for thought…
"A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone." — Henry David Thoreau, discovered from Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Work Week
I’m doing a bit of travelling about the country in the next week or so, meaning I’ll have some good stories to share with you next week! As always, thanks for reading and I’ll see you soon.
